Young at Art Event Schedule

Festival dates: Saturday May 14, 2011 to Sunday May 22, 2011

Location: de Young Museum, (Kimball Education Gallery, Wilsey Court, Piazzoni Mural Room & Koret Theater) and Music Concourse & Bandshell in front of the De Young museum in Golden Gate Park.

May 17-20 from 10 am–1 pm, community artists offer hands-on art activities in the Music Concourse in front of the de Young.

Festival highlights include:

On Saturday, May 14, Young at Art presents Community Day. Hands on art activities are offered inside the de Young.

On Tuesday, May 17, film and video screenings of student works curated by the Education Department of the San Francisco Film Society are featured in the Koret Auditorium at the de Young. 10am-12pm

On Friday, May 20, Young at Art Community Celebration, 5-8pm (details below). StageWrite performs in their annual showcase at 7:00 pm in the Koret Auditorium at the de Young. Professional actors perform six insightful plays written by fifth graders from Starr King Elementary School.

The night will feature Lowell's Orchestra, George Washington High Schools Dance Department and A.P. Giannini's Jazz Band, as well as the Dave Parker trio featuring our very own SFUSD music teachers (they have performed at Yoshi's!) and the prestigious Dreamcatcher Awards, given to individuals that made a difference in arts education for SFUSD students in 2011.
The Vernon Davis Visual Arts Scholarship will be presented as part of the Friday night May 20, 2011 celebration in Wilsey Court of the de Young Museum by the SF Arts Commission.
Come help us celebrate and support our students, arts teachers and partners!

On Saturday, May 21, award-winning young writers read works of prose and poetry at 2 pm in the Koret Auditorium at the de Young. Acclaimed playwright Marcus Gardley is keynote speaker.
